The trek starts in the Khumbu region with a trek to Lukla. From Lukla, the trekkers will follow the Dudh Koshi River Valley, passing through the villages of Phakding and Namche Bazaar. The trekkers will then reach the Gokyo Lakes, which are situated at an altitude of 4,750 meters. Here, the trekkers will get to enjoy the spectacular views of Mount Everest and Mount Cho Oyu.

The next destination of this trek is Kalapathar, which is situated at an altitude of 5,545 meters. From here, the trekkers will have a breathtaking view of the Khumbu Glacier, Mount Everest, and the surrounding peaks. After Kalapathar, the trekkers will reach the Everest Base Camp at a height of 5,364 meters. At the base camp, they will be able to experience the beauty of Mount Everest, the Khumbu icefall, and the surrounding glaciers.

After Trek to base camp, trekkers will ascend to Island Peak. Here, they will summit Island Peak at a height of 6,189 meters, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After summiting Island Peak, the trekkers will descend to Chhukung.  Then another two days down to Lukla and the trek ends there.

Route 

The trek begins in Lukla, where trekkers will acclimatize to the high altitude. From there, trekkers will ascend to the Gokyo Valley, known as the Everest Gokyo ri trek, passing through beautiful villages and lush forests. The Gokyo Valley is home to the world-famous Gokyo Lakes, which are renowned for their stunning beauty. Trekkers will also have the opportunity to take a detour to the breathtaking viewpoint of Gokyo Ri. 

Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp trek and Gokyo Lake route starts from Lukla to heads to Namche Bazar, Dole, Gokyo, Gokyo-Ri, heading to Chola pass EBC, and down to Chhukung and go for Island peak Climbing.

The next part of the trek takes trekkers to the Everest Base Camp. On the way, trekkers will traverse several glaciers and pass including the Namche Bazaar, Kala Patthar, and the Khumbu Icefall. The views of the High Himalayan giants from the base camp are truly spectacular.

The trek culminates with the ascent of Island Peak. Located at an altitude of 6189 meters, Island Peak is one of the most popular peaks in Nepal and provides an exhilarating summit experience. The views of the surrounding peaks from the top of Island Peak are simply stunning. 

Best Time 

The best time to climb Island Peak is in the spring season (March to May) and autumn season (September to November). During these seasons, the weather is stable, and the days are relatively warmer and dry. The views of the surrounding peaks are also at their best during these seasons. 

It is best to plan the trek for March to May and October to December to get the best views and experience the peak climbing and expedition as well as Nepal trekking.  

Difficulty 

The trek is considered to be of moderate difficulty and can be completed in 14-21 days, depending on your fitness level. 

As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes even more spectacular, with the snow-capped peaks of Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Mount Makalu Makalu, and Cho Oyu visible along the way. From Dingboche, the trek continues to the Gokyo Lakes, a series of six stunning glacial lakes. Here, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the serenity and natural beauty of this area.

From Gokyo, the trek continues to Everest Base Camp, where you will get the chance to explore the famous Khumbu Icefall and the surrounding glaciers. From the Everest Base Camp trek, you will then trek down to Chhukkung and go up to the island summit of Island Peak (6189 m). This is considered to be the most difficult section of the trek and requires a good level of fitness and ex-high-altitude mountaineering.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m./4429ft).

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, Adventure A One Trek representative welcomes you and will help you to transfer to the hotel. You can then take a good rest in the hotel. Later you can explore around yourself if interested. 

Day 2 : Fly to Lukla (30 minutes/ 2800m./ 9186ft) and trek to Phakding (2610m. /8500ft./4/5 hours trekking).

With an early morning flight, you will be arriving at Lukla airport. At Lukla, meet the porters before starting the trek. The route to Phakding is an easy one. Just keep your eyes open as the finest views of Kusum Kanguru can be collected. Phakding is a small settlement on the Dudh Koshi river bank. Enjoy a comfortable night's stay at the Phakding teahouse.

Day 3 : Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m./11286ft./ 5/6 hours trekking).

Start the day with a good breakfast. Get into Monjo then enter Sagarmatha National Park- the home to the greatest Himalayan flora and faunas. The dense forest of blue pine, deodar, rhododendron, and more. On a clear day, you can also catch the first glimpse of Mount Everest on the way up to Namche Bazar. After six hours of trek, you will be reaching Namche Bazar- which is also famous as the Sherpa capital. Namche is the home of famous mountaineers. You will be staying two nights at Namche before heading up. 

Day 4 : Hike to Everest viewpoint (2 hours’ hike/3780m./12401ft.) and Namche Bazar exploration.

After breakfast, you will be hiking up to Everest View Point to collect 360 views of the mountains. The viewpoint offers stunning views of the Himalayas including Mount Everest. Later in the afternoon, you can explore Namche Bazar or have a good rest in your hotel. 

Day 5 : Trek to Dole (4,110m /13484ft./5/6 hours’ trek).

Taking a different route than Everest base camp, you will be walking a winding path to Kyangima. Along the way, you will get a chance to spot the wildlife including colorful Danphe, Himalayan musk deer, mountain goat, etc. The route then diverts to the north to reach the ridge of Mong and then to the beautiful village of Phortse Thanga. Phortse onwards, you will be taking an uphill route to get to Dole for the night. You will be staying overnight in a local village.

Day 6 : Trek to Machherma (4,470m /14665ft./4/5 hours trek).

Relatively short day for the trek. You will be first getting to Lhabarma Kharka and then to Luza. From Luza, you will be taking a downhill route to get to Machhermo. In the afternoon you are taking a short hike to collect the excellent views of Mt Cho Oyo and other towering peaks. You will be spending the night at a local teahouse. 

Day 7 : Trek to Gokyo (4,800m/15748ft./4/5 hours’ trek).

The scenic trail gradually leads to Gokyo Valley. The rocky path into the wonderful valley passing the glacial lakes is something amazing. Upon reaching the Gokyo Valley, you will get a chance to explore the lakes after lunch. The views of Mt Cho Oyo look even better. Enjoy exploring the wonderful valley. 

Day 8 : Hike to Gokyo Ri(5357m./17575ft./) and explore the glacial lakes.

The day is dedicated to the hike to Gokyo Ri and the exploration of the glacial lakes of Gokyo. Gokyo Ri offers the panorama of the world’s highest peaks from Mount. Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Cholatse, and Taweche, and to the east rises Mt. Makalu. Then you will get back to the hotel for the lunch. Post lunch you will be exploring the beautiful lakes of Gokyo. You will be spending your night at a local teahouse. 

Day 9 : Trek to Thagnak (4,750m/15583ft./5/6 hours’ trek).

One of the best days of the trek. The short hike leads you to Gokyo Ri to collect the stunning views of Mount Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Cholatse, Taweche, and more. After collecting the wonderful views at Gokyo Ri, you will be then taking a descending route to Thank for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local teahouse. 

Day 10 : Cross Tsho-la (5,367m/17608ft.) and trek to Dzongla (4,830 m /15846ft./7/8 hours’ trek) .

You will be starting the day pretty early. The first section of the route is uphill leading towards Tsho La over the rocky moraine. The route gets tougher if there is snow and ice. The walking is always exciting as it covers the greater views of Cholatse, Nirekha, and Taboche peaks. From the top, the route converts downhill to get to Dzongla for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 11 : Trek to Lobuche (4,910 m/16108ft./4/5 hours’ trek).

You will be starting the day pretty early. The first section of the route is uphill leading towards Tsho La over the rocky moraine. The route gets tougher if there is snow and ice. The walking is always exciting as it covers the greater views of Cholatse, Nirekha, and Taboche peaks. From the top, the route converts downhill to get to Dzongla for the night. You will be staying overnight at a local lodge. 

Day 12 : Trek to Everest base camp(5364m./17598ft.) via Gorakshep and back Gorakshep. (5140m./16863ft./7/8 hours trekking).

On the most exciting day, you will first trek to Gorakshep for three hours. You will then have your lunch there. Post lunch, leave your bag packs and start the hike to Everest base camp with some essentials (a day pack, water, a camera, and some chocolates). It takes ninety minutes to get to base camp from Gorakshep. Enjoy the moments, collect the memories, and leave a footprint at Everest base camp. Then retrace back to Gorakshep for the night. 

Day 13 : Hike to Kalapathar (5,545m./18182ft.) and trek to Chukung(4,725 m/15501ft./ 5/6 hours’ trek).

Early morning, get to Kalapatthar to collect the best sunrise view. Kalapatthar is the better place to see closer views of Mount Everest. Collecting the sunrise view at Kalapatthar is the best experience of the whole trek. You will then get back to Gorakshep for the breakfast. Then you will be starting your journey towards Chukung. You will be following the same way back to get to Lobuche then the route diverts to Chukung there onwards. You will be spending your night at one of the many teahouses at Chukung. 

Day 14 : Trek to Island Peak Base Camp (4,965 m/16289ft./4/5 hours’ trek).

Early morning, get to Kalapatthar to collect the best sunrise view. Kalapatthar is the better place to see closer views of Mount Everest. Collecting the sunrise view at Kalapatthar is the best experience of the whole trek. You will then get back to Gorakshep for the breakfast. Then you will be starting your journey towards Chukung. You will be following the same way back to get to Lobuche then the route diverts to Chukung there onwards. You will be spending your night at one of the many teahouses at Chukung. 

Day 15 : Rest day and preparation for the climb.

The day is dedicated to acclimatization. On a free day, you will be taking some pre-climbing training. You can then take a good rest in your free time. 

Day 16 : Climbing day to the summit of Island peak (6,189m / 20,305 ft /8/9 hours.)

Then continues through the stone and icefall to a steep snow route to take to the top of Island Peak where your dream meets reality. From the top of the Island, you can enjoy the fantastic views of Mount Everest at 8,848 m, Lhotse at 8,501 m, Mt. Amadablam at 6,856 m, and Mt. Makalu 8, at 463 m, Chamlang, and Baruntse peaks. Then after you will be retracing back to base camp for the night.

Day 17 : Trek to Pangboche (3,900 m/ 12795ft./5/6 hours’ trek).

After a successful climbing experience of Island Peak, today you will be trekking back to Pangboche via Chhukung for the night. The route offers greater views of the high Himalayas all the way.  You will be staying overnight at Pangboche- which is a wonderful village with greater views of the Himalayas. You will be spending your night at a local teahouse. 

Day 18 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m /11286ft./5/6 hours’ trek).

The route now looks familiar as you will be taking the same route back. Following the Tengboche, with the greater views of mountains and occasional encounters with wildlife, you will be retracing back to Namche Bazar for the night. You are now in the exciting bazaar with good food, restaurants, and cafes around. You will be spending your night at a local teahouse. 

Day 19 : Trek to Lukla (5/6 hours’ trek).

On the final day of the trek. You will be first retracing back to Phakding following the same route. Furthermore, from Phakding, you will be trekking back to Lukla for the night. In the evening, you can join a farewell dinner with your trekking team as you will be saying goodbye to most of the members except the guide.

Day 20 : Scenic flight back to Kathmandu (30 minutes’ flight) and free time.

After collecting all the greatest memories of the trek, today you will be flying back to Kathmandu. From Kathmandu airport, you will be transferred to the hotel where you can take a relaxing rest. 

Day 21 : Final departure

With all the finest memories, today you will be flying to your next destination. Our representative will be transferred to Kathmandu airport. With the hope of seeing you again in Nepal, we will be saying bye for this time.
