Overview

Mera Peak climbing and Amphu Laptsa Pass

The famous Mera Peak Climb and Amphu Laptsa pass trek is a combined adventure inside the Everest region. The great adventure starts with a scenic flight to Lukla Airport- the gateway to Mount Everest. It then goes towards Mera Peak base camp via beautiful places Thuli Kharka and Khare. Eventually succeeding in the climb of Mera Peak at 6471 meters, the route then diverted towards the next challenge of Amphu Lapsta Pass. 
Amphu Laptsa Pass is located at an elevation of 5400 meters above sea level. One of the challenging high passes in the Himalayas, the finest views of the mountains can be collected from Tashi Laptsa Pass. Upon completing the pass, the route then retraces back to Lukla via Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is widely famous as the Sherpa capital- where the famous mountaineer Sherpa lives. 
As the trek goes inside the Sagarmatha National Park- a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site- the occasional encounters of wildlife are expected. The endangered species of Himalayan musk deer, snow leopard, and more have been making this national park their home. 
Like other trekking inside the Everest region, Mera Peak Climbing and Amphu Laptsa Pass Trek is also a seasonal adventure. The best time to trip to Mera and Amphu Laptsa is the months of spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).

Trip Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, Adventure A One Trek representative welcomes you and will help you to transfer to the hotel. You can then take a good rest in the hotel. Later you can explore around yourself if interested. 

  • Accommodation: at a 3-star category hotel on a twin/double sharing basis. 

Go for Kathmandu Valley sightseeing to explore the historical and cultural city. The sightseeing is dedicated to exploring four of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites of Kathmandu Valley. Those four sites include- Kathmandu Durbar Square, Soyambhunath, Boudhanath, and Pashupatinath.

After the sightseeing, you can then focus on trek preparation. You can hire or buy the necessary equipment in Thamel. In the evening, you will be meeting your guide for the trip meeting.

With an early morning flight, you will be getting to Lukla- the gateway to Everest. At Lukla, you will be meeting the rest of the trip members before starting the trek. Then from Lukla, you will be taking the route to the east to get Chutanga for the night.

Start the day with a delicious breakfast, the route first leads to the ridgeline that separates Khumbu and Hinku valley. From there you will be trekking east toward the beautiful Inku Valley. The route then gets tougher to get passing the Zatrwa La pass above 4600 meters, with excellent views of the Dudh Koshi river valley and the exciting views of the mountains.  The route from the pass to Thuli Kharka is an easy descending way. Thuli Kharka is a summer pasture area.

The route for the day is mostly downhill via the rhododendron and the pine forests. The greater views of Mera's south face, Peak 43, and Kusum Kanguru are amazing. Kothe is a place for the night. You can enjoy the good views of the Himalayas from here.

The trip continues towards the northeast, leaving the green vegetation behind. The walk for the day is an easy one through the pastures. First, you will reach Gondishung, the pasture area where you can house which is 200 years old. Walking further, you will be reaching Tagnag for the overnight.

The trip resumes with breakfast, the morning walk first climbs over the moraine path to Charpatti Lake, then gradually to Dig Kharka. Then a gradual hike finally takes you to Khare for the night.

You will be spending an extra day in Khare for acclimatization. Khare is a beautiful place with the finest views of white hills. Enjoy the free day.

Cross the Mera glacier then to an icy area for some walks, before getting to Mera Base Camp. Upon reaching Mera Base Camp you will have enough free time. Your guide will be taking you for some climbing preparation. Then after, enjoy the supreme views of the High Himalayas.

A short day, start the day with breakfast. Then take the steps towards the high camp for the night. Upon arriving at high camp, you can take a rest. Whereas, your guide will be preparing for the next. He will be making sure that everything is well set for the summit day.

The day to reach the destination, you will be starting early morning. The climb to the top is not much technical but safety measures should be followed. Your guide will be briefed regarding the route and the measures before making the final shot. Upon reaching the top, you can collect the best views of mountains which include Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho-Oyu, and towards Mt. Kanchenjunga on the eastern horizon and even more.  You will be then going to Kongma Dingma for the night.

The reserved day is for bad or unfavorable weather conditions. If everything goes well then, no contingency day is needed.

Upon completing the exciting journey of Mera Peak, this day you will be heading towards the Ampu Laptsa pass route. Off the beaten route inside Everest, this route is exciting and challenging to walk. By collecting the wonderful views of the Everest range, you will be walking in the gorge of the Himalayas to reach Seto Pokhari. The Seto Pokhari means the white pond, which is a nice glacial lake. Upon arriving at Seto Pokhari, your guide you will be setting off the camp for the night. You will be staying overnight at a tented camp.

One of the best days of the trek, you will be first trekking towards the Upper Hunku part. From there you will be getting to Hunku Pokhari. Then the final section to the south base camp is via Hunku glacier to get to the south base camp of Amphu Laptsa pass. Upon arriving, you will be setting the camp for the day.

The big day is here as you will be crossing one of the exciting and challenging high Himalayan passes of Amphu Laptsa. The journey starts earlier as it will be a long day. The route is through the slopes, ice, and glaciers to the top of the Ampu Laptsa. From the top of the pass, you can collect the best views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Island Peak, and other adjoining mountains. The Imja Valley looks stunning as well. Upon crossing and enjoying the best views, you will be then trekking to the north base camp of Amphu Laptsa.

Today taking the downhill route, you will be trekking to Chhukung village. Chukkung is a wonderful village with greater mountain views. After so many days in the tented camps, you are now back on the teahouses again.  You will be staying overnight at a local lodge.

The route now looks familiar as you will be taking the same route back. With an easy and descending route, you will be getting back to Tengboche today. In Tengboche, you can explore the famous Tengboche monastery. Likewise, you can get a good view of the mountains as well.

The final day of the trek. You will be first retracing back to Monju following the same route. The route is easy and downhill for the day.

Retrace the same way back, that you have followed up. Get the final glimpse of Mount Everest, enjoy the stunning trails, and wish good luck to the trekkers going up. At Lukla, you will be saying goodbye to your porter as well.

After collecting all the greatest memories of the trek, today you will be flying back to Kathmandu. From Kathmandu airport, you will be transferred to the hotel where you can take a relaxing rest.

You can take an entire day resting in Kathmandu. You can also go to the spa or massages to give some relief for your tired body. You can also do some shopping in Thamel.
