Overview

Chulu West Peak Climbing

Chulu West Peak climbing is a fascinating Himalayan adventure around the scenic Manang Valley. Situated at an elevation of 6485 meters. Chulu West Peak climb is observed as one of the most technical and challenging peaks to climb. Given the climbing grade of Technical Difficult by the French/Swiss Alpine climbing classification, this is a moderately adventurous trip inside the Annapurna region.

The fantabulous journey not only contains the climbing of Chulu Himal but to trekking around the lovely Annapurna Mountain region. The various landscapes and the experience of walking inside the dense forest of rhododendrons, pine, and magnolia are also part of the adventure. Whereas, the exploration of the vibrant local villages and learning the cultures, traditions, and coming closer to their lifestyle is equally interesting.

Most importantly the greater views of the Annapurna Mountains, Chulu Peaks, Manaslu Mountain, and others are the best parts. The inclusion of Thorang La Pass at 5416 is exciting. Likewise, the visit to the famous Muktinath Temple (mustang) adds excitement to the trip. Muktinath- the place of salvation has a prominent meaning among Hindus and Buddhists. Plus, the scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara is fascinating.

Route

The trek begins in the town of Besishahar, located in the Marshyangdi River valley. From here, the trail follows the Marshyangdi River upstream through the villages of Ngadi and Chame. After Chame, the trail climbs steeply to the picturesque village of Pisang. From here, the trail continues to climb and passes through several small villages before reaching the village of Manang.

From Manang, the route to Chulu West Base Camp follows the Jarsang Khola Valley. The trail climbs gradually, passing through several glacial moraines before reaching the high alpine pastures of the Chulu West Base Camp. From the base camp, the climb to Chulu West Peak begins. The route is relatively straightforward, but the summit is quite exposed with steep ridges, crevasses, and icy sections.

The summit of Chulu West offers spectacular views of the surrounding Annapurna range. To the north, the view extends to the Tibetan Plateau while to the south, the peaks of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, and Annapurna IV can be seen. The descent follows the same route back to Manang and then returns to Besishahar.

Best Time

The best time to climb Chulu West is from March to May and from September to December. During the spring season, the weather is generally milder, with fewer chances of snow, and the days are longer. During the autumn season, the skies are usually clear, making for great views of the Annapurna range.

No matter what season you choose to climb Chulu West, it is important to be prepared with the proper gear and clothing. Make sure to bring warm layers, especially if climbing during the winter months. A good pair of mountaineering boots and crampons are also essential. Difficulty

Climbing Chulu West Peak requires a high level of technical skill. The peak is guarded by two formidable ridges, both of which require climbers to scale steep terrain and traverse narrow ledges. The final ascent is a steep snow and ice climb, with a few tricky rock steps. The terrain can be quite exposed, and climbers must be prepared for unexpected weather and potential avalanches.

Despite its technical difficulty, Chulu West is a popular peak for climbers of all skill levels. The moderate trekking route offers stunning views of the Annapurna range and the Kali Gandaki valley, and the easier route is ideal for those with less experience. Experienced mountaineers can attempt the more difficult ridges and the final ascent.
