Overview

Makalu Base Camp Trek

The Makalu base camp trek is a trip to the base camp of the world's fifth-highest mountain. Into the wilderness through the remote areas. Makalu Base Camp Trekking is within and inside the fabulous valleys of Arun and Barun. These two valleys are popular for the rare species of herbs, plants, and some endangered wildlife as well.
The exciting adventure to Makalu also includes exploring the rural villages of the region. The inclusion of the exploration of the local villages allows for witnessing the pure local cultures, traditions, and living styles that have been followed by the people for years. The wonderful farmlands, the stunning waterfalls, and the raging river of Arun are also part of this adventure. Walking through the dense and cool forests of rhododendrons and pines adds a sweet taste to the trek.
Finally, collecting the superb views of Mount Makalu, Mount Everest, and other adjoining peaks sums up the exceptional trek to Makalu base camp. The highest elevation of the trek is 4812 meters at Makalu Base Camp. Since the trek is a camping trek, it offers something more challenging and interesting than other regular trekking in Nepal. The off-the-beaten trek route- there are very few people trekking here even in the high seasons.
Like other trekking in Nepal, the Makalu base camp trek is also a seasonal one. The best time to trek Makalu base camp is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Although trekking Makalu in December is doable. But the other two months of winter (January and February) plus the months of monsoon (June to August) are not recommended.
