During the trek, trekkers will traverse through lush forests, pretty villages and High Mountain passes, all the while taking in the spectacular mountain views.

The Kanchenjunga Trek is the ultimate trek for experienced trekkers looking for an impressive adventure. It takes about 16 to 20 days to complete the trek and is best done from September to November and March to June. During this time, the weather is perfect and the views of the mountains are at their best.

Trekkers will need to be well-prepared, as the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is physically demanding, with steep ascents and descents. Trekkers should bring suitable supplies of food and water, as well as warm clothing and strong trekking boots. It’s also important to ensure that you have the necessary permits, such as a Kanchenjunga National Park permit, an Annapurna Conservation Area permit, and a Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card.

The Kanchenjunga Trek is an unforgettable experience, offering trekkers the chance to explore some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery. The trek is challenging, but the rewards of reaching the summit are worth the effort. If you’re an experienced trekker looking for an adventure of a lifetime, the Kanchenjunga Trek is a perfect choice.

Kanchenjunga Trek Route

The Kanchenjunga trek route starts from Taplejung, a small village in the eastern part of Nepal. The Kanchenjunga Base Camp trekking trail leads to Yamphudin and heads to the base camp of  Kanchenjunga. From here, the trekkers can explore the most breathtaking views of the Himalayas, including the Kanchenjunga range, Makalu, and Barun Valley.

The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek route also includes a visit to the historic town of Taplejung and the traditional villages of Yamphudin, Ghunsa, and Lhonak. Along the way, trekkers can explore the cultural and religious sites in these villages including Local ethnic tribe villages, temples, monasteries, and stupas. The trekking route also provides excellent opportunities for wildlife watching. Trekkers can spot rare animals such as the red panda and snow leopard.

The Kanchenjunga trek route is divided into two parts – the lower and the upper part. The lower part of the trek is shorter and easier. While the upper part is more challenging that’s why it takes longer to complete trekking. The lower part of the trek is less steep and takes about four days to complete. On the other hand, the upper part of the trek is more strenuous and takes about seven to eight days to complete.

Best Time for Kanchenjunga Trek

The best time to do a Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek depends on the type of trek you’re looking to do. The peak season for trekking in the Kanchenjunga region is April to June, and September to October. The months of April to June are the best time to go for high-altitude treks and witness the spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks. This is also the time when the meadows are in full bloom and the rhododendron forests are lush and vibrant.

If you are looking for an off-season trek, then November to February is the best time to do the Kanchenjunga base camp trek. The temperature is quite low and the trails are not as crowded. But this time trekking is more challenging and risky. However, you should be prepared for some snowfall and bad weather.

Difficulty of Kanchenjunga Trek

The Kanchenjunga Trek is a high-altitude trek that requires trekkers to be mentally and physically fit. The altitudes of this trek range from 3,000m to 8,586m, making it one of the highest treks in the world. This trek is considered difficult due to the steep ascents and descents as well as the extreme weather conditions that can be encountered.

The unpredictable weather is one of the primary reasons for the difficulty of the Kanchenjunga Trek. The weather can change quickly and significantly, making it difficult to predict and prepare for. Trekkers should be prepared for snow, rain, and strong winds during the trek. It is also important to be aware of the risk of altitude sickness due to the high elevation of the trek and its route.

The remote location of the trek also adds to its difficulty. The Kanchenjunga Trek is often done on a round-trip, meaning that trekkers have to cover the same route twice. This makes it difficult to find help or supplies if needed. Trekkers should also be aware of the potential for avalanches, landslides, and mudslides, which can make the trek even more challenging.
